Historical information Gorch Fock II Painted Ship Model:

The sailing ship Gorch Fock I was constructed in its home port of Hamburg in 1933 and served as a sail training vessel for cadets.

Gorch Fock I is a German three – masted barque, was the first in a series of training ships built for the German Reichsmarine in 1933. Following World War II it was taken by the Soviet Union as war reparations and renamed Tovarishch.

In the 1990s it briefly flew the Ukrainian flag and spent an extended period in British ports due to insufficient repair funds. Subsequently, the ship was acquired by sponsors and returned to its original home port of Stralsund, where it was restored to its original name, Gorch Fock. Now serving as a museum ship it underwent extensive repairs in 2008 and has since been restored to seaworthiness. In April 2009, it visited the Port of Belfast allowing the public to board and view the ship.
